Well it is Friday and time for the picks

(Okay I was so rushed that I had to finish this on Sunday)

So here is a very rushed set of picks for you. Stupid work and it requirements for things to get done.

As we saw last week I am horrible against the number. So I am going to drive right back in and hurt myself some more.

Here are my college picks

Alabama at Florida (-15) Urban Meyer and the Gators do some Urban renewal all over the Tide. Gators 39 - 12

Georgia Tech at Virginia Tech (-9) How does Chan Gailey keep his job? I am going to go out on a limb and say the Hokies block a punt. Hokies 27 - 17

USC at Washington State (+17) The Trojans are still trying to find an identity. The Cougars are trying to find a way to spring Dennis Erickson from his job at Idaho. Trojans win, but I think the Cougs cover, barely. USC 28 - 16

Purdue at Norte Dame (-14) Will the Domers be up for this Intra-Indiana scrap. Considering last weeks great escape. I think they win by just enough. Irish 41 - 24

Stanford at UCLA (-23.5) The Bruins need to vent their anger on the Cardinal this weekend. Last week was just god awful. They win but Stanford covers. Bruins 35 - 21

Ohio State at Iowa (-7) Ohio State is the team to beat. Is Iowa the team to do it. I think not. Even though I have a soft spot for the Hawkeyes because the logo and uniforms are what my high school had. I hope that the Iowa wins even if it means Tom Arnold would be happy, but I think Ohio State imposes its will and wins. Buckeyes 23 - 14

Now let me try to give you a quick run down on the NFL Week #4 before I hit the highways.

San Diego at Baltimore (+2) Show me your Lighting Bolt! Just kidding I think if you take the under you will be happy. This team is a litmus test for both. Both have feasted on bad teams so what happens when they step up in class. I think the Ravens will get enough to win. I think they will be all over Rivers. Ravens 13 - 10

New Orleans at Carolina (-7) I used to have a hard and fast rule about the Saints. Never trust them, but now it seems I may need to move that title to the Panthers who win when you don't expect them and then let you down when they should win. But I will give them one more shot. Yes the Saints are 3-0 and playing great, but they just came off a huge emotional win and the Panthers need this game or they will put themselves in non playoff friendly situation. Panthers 27 - 19

Miami at Houston (+3.5) Someone loves the Dolphins because here is another winnable game for them. A chance to get back into the AFC East race. But I am going out on a limb. I think the Texans get a win. Texans 24 - 21

Indy at New York Jets (-9) The Jets have been the surprise so far and are in the hunt, but I think the Colts remind them that they are still rebuilding. Especially if they can not run the ball. Colts 35 - 18

Dallas at Tennessee (-9) Even with the T.O. Circus the Cowboys will abuse the Titans. But the T.O. situation makes me think what level will the Eagles fans go to taunt him when he makes his return to Philly. I can't imagine what the kind warm people that are Eagles fans will do.? Cowboys 20 - 9

Arizona at Atlanta (-7.5) I would have loved to seen Leinart play, because the Falcons would have beaten him silly. The Dirty Birds rebound and make life tough for the Red Birds. Falcons 28 - 17

Minnesota at Buffalo (-1) The Vikes have shown a ton of grit and could be 3-0. The Bills have done the same and they could be 3-0, but I think the Bills lose another tough one. The Bills are getting better, I know that is of no consolation to the fans right now. Vikings 20 - 14

San Francisco at Kansas City (-7) Right now Chief fans are trying to find Elvis Grbek or Rich Gannon, since they know Damon Huad is not the answer. They are in a tough one. They win but the 49ers give them a scare and cover the points. Chiefs 20 - 17

Detroit at St. Louis (-6) Hey kids, it is the Mike Martz Bowl. Rams look to win and help maintain calm in St. Louis as the Cardinals choke away N.L. Central. I think the Rams grind it out. Rams 23 - 16

Cleveland at Oakland (+3) How is anyone favored in this one. This might be the worst game of the year. The Browns won here last year, but with out Droughns the falter. Raiders 10 - 6

Jacksonville at Washington(+3) Jacksonville should be 3-0 right now. They have a good D, and the Offense is starting to come around, but almost does not cut it. They had a chance to beat Indy and they did not take it. Today they face a Redskins who finally decided to show up last week. Sure it was against the Texans but they showed up. I think the Jags grind out a win that is high on punch you in the mouthitude and low on style points. Redskin fans, it may be time to start worrying. Jags 20 - 13

New England at Cincinnati (-6) I keep hearing the "don't go against Brady or the Pats." I think the Pats are in for it today. The Pats are talented and will make the playoffs, but not having the passing game his hurting them. Now if they can withstand the Bengals assault early and be in a position to run the ball, then they have a shot. But Bengals will have too much for the Pats and win 27 - 20.

Seattle at Chicago (-3) A great matchup that would have been better if certain running backs who get drafted by me in their fantasy drafts, didn't break their foot! But I am not bitter about that. So the Bears have a chance to show the country that you may be seeing them play in February. So far they have produced some O for that D. The scary part is that they have not gotten the running game going. Another game if you love the under, take it. Da Bears 16 - 10

Monday night

Green Bay at Philadelphia (-11) Will they actually show us the game or will the camera be on Farve the whole time. Look Farve is wait was great. He is still better than a lot of QB's in the league, but I am over it. The Packers have set themselves back years for having him come back. Packer fans you remember how nice things were back in the 80's, well that where you are heading. As for Monday night, this will be a track meet. Since both teams have problems in the secondary the footballs will be a flying. But the Eagles will at least be able to make a stop, so they roll the Pack. Eagles 34 - 21.

Now please excuse me, I must go dent the couch for the rest of the day.

T.O.

What are going to do with you?

Tuesday, September 26, 2006

I have come to the conclusion.

I am an idiot when it come to the line.

Football Wrap Up

So another week of football is over and what have we learned.

We learned if you hit a five team parlay put more money down.

My college picks

Michigan W (L) They did look sluggish but they covered. Rats!

Georgia W (L) This should be a straight up loss. Hey I rake the Buffalos over the coals and they played inspired until the end. That was a crushing loss for them. Here you are sitting 0-2 and you have a chance to win a huge road game, then to see it slip away. That was not a fun planeride home.

Auburnn W (L) The Bulls coverat Auburnn, another moral victory. I would like to see Gill turn that program around. Haven’t they suffered enough?

Cal W (W) By the time the Sun Devils figured things out they were already behind the woodshed

Ohio State W (W) Closer than the scores indicates. Joe Pa kept them around, but they have no offense and they blew some opportunities. Ohio State just keeps rolling along. Next week at Iowa, which I hope will be entertaining.

Washington W (W) Karl this one hurt. The Bruins should have blown this team out. The scored should have been at least 24 – 0 before the Huskies first score. Hand it to the Huskies. This team could have packed it up, but they didn't. That was a winable game for the Bruins. This one was a shot to the nuts, plain and simple.

USC W (L) Great defense, but the Trojans O looks out of synchsync hopefully it never gin synchsync. Have I mentioned I hate these guys. I think fans will just need to realize that every game is not going to be a blow out, so don’t clog the airwaves with your whinny about not scoring 50 points a night. But then you are SC and that is what you good at. Yes I am very jealous of your success, so bite me.

Michigan State L (L) What they hell is going on at MSU? This maybe one of the most scitzo programs in D-I. Some Saturdays they play like world beaters and others play like the weaker directional Michigan schools. This team does get players right. This program is not a bottom feeder. I think the last time they played in a meaningful bowl game was the Rose Bowl in 87.

So for this week I was: 7-1 SU and 3-5 ATS

That puts the old Boski at:

15-3 SU

8-10 ATS

Now let us shift our attention to the pros.

Redskins W (W) Redskins 31 – 15 Skins spotted the Texans 7 and then beat them with the back end of a shovel the rest of the afternoon. Mark Burnell set an NFL record with a little help from a penalty, with 22 straight completions. It showed they needed Clinton Portis, but this team still far from being a playoff team. If they do this against a quality team then I might change my tune. The Skins need to open up the playbook and strech the field. They did a better job Sunday, but they need to get the ball up field enough to keep 8 out of the box. Bubble screens are great but this aint college so you can only go so far, if that is the majority of you passing game.

Bills L (L) Jets 28 – 20 Just when it was safe to go back into the water. The Jets did something that has never been done. It won a game even when it allowed a 150 yard runner and a 300 yard passer. Buffalo could move the ball, but the Jets made plays when they needed them. Did anyone think the Jets would be in 2nd place of the AFC East after week 1? I didn’t either.

Colts to win, Jags to cover W (P) Colts 21 – 14 Good effort but not good enough Jags. Special teams are special for a reason. Missing a 24 yarder that could have put more pressure on the Colts who where being stymied by a good defensive effort. But if you don't put points on the board you asking for trouble. Hey it was really dangerous to see that the Jag coaching staff let one of their kids run the football. Oh wait that was just Maurice Jones-Drew all 5 foot 6 of him. I loved him at UCLA and I hope he makes it in the league, but it does look like a helmet running the football.

Lions L (L) Packers 31 - 24 More things change the more the things look the same in Detriot. Hey you at least have the Tigers for a couple more weeks.

Dolphins W (L) Dolphins 13 – 10 The Dolphins did get a gift, but the way they played it looked like the Titans had given them some bad clams. Even with this win, the Super Bowl will only be in reach if they contact a ticket agents now.

Bears W (L) Bears 16 – 13 Rex Grossman showed a lot by shaking off the late Pick for Six and leading the Bears to the win. Now if they get the running game going they will be playing in the NFC Championship Game. The Vikes have shown a great deal so far and it looks like that cleaning house was the right thing to do.

Carolina W (L) Carolina 26 – 24 That was a fight between two desperate teams. It looks like the Bucs lost more than the game. Man, Chris Simms took a beating and a half. And now knowing his spleen may have looked more like hamburger, he still went out there and nearly willed them to a win. The Panthers still have some issues to fix, but they stayed in the NFC South race. Cleats off to Kasay for hitting 4 FG’s of 46 yards and longer.

Pittsburgh L (L) Bengals 24 – 20 The last time I saw a punt return messed up like that was when I was a Sophomore in high school. The Steelers had this game and they made mistakes along the lines of getting into a land war in Asia. They gave the Bengals too many chances. Two TO’s in the second half that lead to two, two play drives and 14 points. The Bengals were so happy that after the game a couple of them celebrated with the Highway Patrol.

Baltimore W (L) Ravens 15 – 14 Charlie, throw the ball away. I have seen hell, and it is life as a Browns fan.

Seahawks W (W) Seahawks 42 – 30 The Giants may be the biggest headcases in NFC East. I was listening to someone talk about the Giants and how when they win, it all about the players making the plays. But when they lose they blame the coaching. This is going to get ugly at Camp Coughlin if they do not get on track soon. Fantasy tangent -This game was a tough one to swallow. Yes, I am one of those unlucky to have had the 3rd pick of their fantasy drafts. I took Alexander. So right now I want to punch John Madden in the mouth. But I had two other players in this game one of them was Hassleback. So you think I should have won going away right. Nope, I won but only by a couple of points. That was due to the fact the team I played screwed up its line-up. The other horse I had in the race was the Seahawk D, which played great in the 1st Half . But they gave up way too many points and yards. Totally wasting that 1st half effort. Damn it, damn it, damn it. Okay back to real football, we will see how long the Seahawks will be without Alexander and if they can win. Tasty tidbit last season they did go 10 – 0 without their top wideout. So this team has operated without all of it's tools and won. I know some tool are more valuable than other, but I think they will hold things down till he comes back. That is if he comes back.

Eagles to win, but 49ers to cover W (L) Eagles 38 – 24 Mike Peterson just crossed the goaline. Well, it looks like the Eagles are over last weeks debacle. I wonder if the NFL will ever look at offensive facemasking. I think sometime ballcarriers get away with too much with the stiff arms. A defensive player goes to the head of an offensive player and that is a penalty, but Brian Westbrook rockem sockem a Niners DB and it’s a great play. Keep the stiff arm but when you delivering a right cross to a players head, then it should be a penalty. Hey I am just saying.

Cardinals L (L) Rams 16 – 14 Yes Denny Green you should be very pissed after this one. You get a gift like that and then boom you team soils themselves well within FG range . Maybe even with the new duds and new stadium they are still just the Cardinals.

Patriots L (L) Broncos 17 – 7 Wow the power of negative thinking. I thought they would be in this game but they would not generate enough O. I was wrong, and they didn’t really need much O. They made Brady angry and I loved it. Now this team still has some kinks to workout. The running game is not all the way back. The passing game still is a little undercooked. And they still need to get more heat on the QB without having to send more than 6

Falcons L (L) Saints 23 – 3 Well if you wanted a Movie of the Week, you got it. This game was made for the Hallmark Channel. The Falcons reverted to what I thought they would be more like. But I must realize that they were not this bad and they did weaponsve some defensive wepons. I see them rebounding. Also tonight it was not 11 on 11 out there. For the Saints, I hope they keep being the surpise of the season. It would be good for them, and the city and the league. Even though I think it is just a matter of time before that team leaves. So I hope they can enjoy it while it lasts. They most certainly earned the right to have something entertaining take their minds off all they are enduring. Still lots of rebuilding to be done. I hope we don’t think it is all okay and forget about it. Alright I am done with that and I am off the soapbox.

Let us look at the big board.

Week # 3: SU 8 – 6 (Yuck) ATS 2 – 11 – 1 (That was horrible)

So after 3 weeks it stands:

SU 32 – 14 (69%) That is a D+ Mr. Boski
ATS 20 – 25 – 1 (43%) Bad, but still above the president's approval rating.

Nitpicking with wit, the picks of Nitwit.

Well as I sit here wasting time in my appointed cube it is time for me to try to make myself look knowledgeable on football.

Lets see what is going on, on campus.

Wisconsin at Michigan (-13.5) Great win last week by Michigan. Are they back or are the Irish a tad overrated. We will see. But Saturday I see them winning, but not by too much. The Badgers give a good fight as Michigan suffers some let down. Michigan 25 – 20

Colorado at Georgia (-27) Dan Hawkins you left the Smurf turf for this. I think all the good work Barnett did at Northwestern gets tossed out because CU is awful. Georgia 38 – 10

Buffalo at Auburn (-41 Yikes) This is what they call a body bag game. I hope the money is worth it Buffalo. Auburn 56 – 9

Arizona State at California (-9) This one might be very entertaining till the fourth. I see Cal playing more like the team that would have at least given the Vols a fight. Cal 31 – 20

Penn State at Ohio State (-17) Ohio State marches on toward Phoenix. Sorry Joe Pa all you get out of this game is motivation for next years game. Ohio State 37 – 17

UCLA at Washington (+3) Washington has fallen from its loft perch in the Pac-10, but has shown a lot of moxie so far, win at Fresno and hanging at Norman. The Bruins looked good against Utah, bad against Rice. I think they step into it this weekend and Ty Willington continues to make his case on staying at WU. I hope I am wrong, but Washington 27 – 20

USC at Arizona (+21.5) Call animal control they need to pick up this bloodied Wildcat. Again I hope I am wrong USC 40 – 14

Notre Dame at Michigan State (+3) I think it will be safe to take the over. The Spartans always show up for the Irish. I think they will again and put the Irish title hope officially out of its misery Spartan 30 – 28

Now on to Week 3 of the Pros

Washington at Houston (+4) I am so tempted to take the Texans because the Skins are an expensive mess. Bordering on Paris Hilton, but they will pull this one out. Skins 28 – 21

New York Jets at Buffalo (-5.5) How about those scrappy Bills. Maybe the old man does know what he is doing. The Jets are showing progress, but not enough to win this week. Bills 23 – 12

Jacksonville at Indianapolis (-7) This one is getting a lot of hype and rightfully so since the Jags did impress on Monday Night. They have won here so an upset is not out of the cards, especially if Freeney is out. But it Dome Sweet Dome and the Colts win, but not by much. Colts 24 Jags 20

Green Bay at Detroit (-7) You must be bad when the team you a touchdown underdog to a team that also has not won. Yuck. The Lions win in an ugly display of football, which seem to be a trend these days. Lions 16 – 7

Cincinnati at Pittsburgh (-2) This is the game of the weekend. I think we will definitely see more points than we saw Monday night. The yapping has already started from the Bengal’s, which should lead to some entertaining trash talking on the field. Also beware of Joey, after the dog incident this week he might me a little testy, which is rare with Joey. If the Bengals had not got as dinged up I would take them, but I think the Steelers hold home field and pull one out. Steelers 28 – 24

Tennessee at Miami (-10.5) The Fish get a gift, and their playoff hopes get some reviving. Well until the next game. The Titans are a mess. Jeff Fisher is going to make some other team very happy when this season ends. Fish 25 – 10

Chicago at Minnesota (+4) I do not know who has impressed me more. Is it the Bears and Grossman, or the toughness that the Vikes are showing right now? I think the Bears continue to grow and get people in the Windy City excited about January. Bears 20 – 14

Carolina at Tampa Bay (+3) Chris Simms meet Julian Peppers. You will be seeing a lot of him. Pray he does not eat onions Sunday morning. Mr. Gruden go find Applewhite, he is good at cleaning up after Chris. Panthers 26 – 10

Baltimore at Cleveland (+7) Sadly the Ravens are back and terrorizing teams again. Again it is showing it is tough to be a Browns fan. Ravens 29 – 9

New York Giants at Seattle (-3.5) Great win by the G-Men and they will give a fight, but a long trip and the poor secondary will make this a frustrating day out. Seahawks 31 – 24

Philadelphia at San Francisco (+6) Eagles dropped one they had and losing the Freak makes it even more of a shot to the gut. They regroup this week, but the 49ers are showing life. Eagles 30 – 27

St. Louis at Arizona (-4.5) The Cards are going to rebound and the Rams will again have problems as the loss of McCollum at center will still hurt them. Cardinals 27 – 13

Denver at New England (-7) Which Bronco team shows up. Shanny always has this team ready to play against the Pats. But I think the Pats will make life tough for Jake (note to Broncos please, please prove me wrong). The Broncos keep it close but the Pats prevail. Pats 24 – 10

Atlanta at New Orleans (+4) Could the NFL set this up any better? Not really unless they were behind the Texans taking Williams so the Saint could get Bush and try to revive the franchise, or if things don’t go well the franchise has a star so if it moves it can grab the fans. I am just saying there may have been NBAesque conspiracy ala Pat Ewing and the Knicks. But I am just one man with a wacky theory. This game will be off the charts on emotion and will be a cracking good game till the Saints get a stop on the Falcons when they need one. Falcons 31 – 26.

All right, I have to get ready and blow this taco stand. So have a good weekend and wish me luck in Vegas. I won’t be able to sit and enjoy all the football glory, but I will be able to catch some.

Got to get this blog moving.

So far this blog has been as piss poor as the White Sox play since the All-Star Break. I am working on it people, or person who reads this. I want to provide you with entertainment or at least something to use to line your virtual birdcages.

So we are done with Week #2.

Well I still know very little about college football. Speaking of Separation Saturday.

I think it will be safe to say that Oklahoma will not schedule any games at Pac 10 stadiums for a while, if possible. Man that was botched beyond recognition.

Speaking of getting jobbed, what happened on that mugging that was committed late in the 4th? I thought it was a penalty. Sadly LSU could score in the 9th and dropped a 7-3 decision. Does the Auburn Qb get credit for a quality start for this game?

USC beats Nebraska - So I am to believe that Bill Callahan has this huge playbook. Why did it seem he ran the same 8 plays all night. Hey Bill when you get done patting yourself on the back for not giving up 50 points, you need to remember your still lost.

Holy Touchdown Jesus, you guys got clubbed by Michigan. Well the Irish can cancel those plans to head to Phoenix this January.

Let's hear it for the Cuse, you gave the Illini a beat down. I hope the Orange will see they are not the biggest program to suck ass. The Illini are now a Superfund site.

Can Louisville have anything more happen to it best players? First Bush now Brohm.

Texas bounced back and went all Atkins Diet on Rice. It ridiculed and abused a carb all day.

Nice little comeback by the Gators. Well now it looks like the heat maybe put back on Fulmer.

Speaking of hot seats. Larry Coker you better update the resume because how do you lose with those players?

So how did I do with my five picks.

Ducks 30 Sooners 19 (Actual Score Ducks 34-33) W(L) Even in the loss, Peterson should be in the final three for the Heisman
Auburn 28 LSU 20 (Aubur 7-3) W (W) - Punters deserved game balls, this game was about field position.
Irish 30 Wolverines 21 (Wolverines 47 - 20 ) L (L)This loss was almost Jerry Faustian in nature.
Gators 27 Vols 23 (Gators 21-20) W (L) It takes something to come back from 17-7 amidst the sea of Orange at Nyland Stadium.
USC 49 Nebraska 20 (U$C 28 -10) W (W) I still hate you USC, I hate you very much.

4 - 1 SU and 2-3 ATS
8-2 for the year SU
5-5 ATS for the year

Before we get to the pros here some random thoughts on

Baseball

In instead of gifts, please send a LF and set up men to the Chicago White Sox. I will have an Arizona address for you to send those to soon.

Mets win the NL East, oh yeah. Great I see another Subway Series coming, which means I can catch up on my napping. Yes I am a bitter White Sox fan, but I can not get behind another all New York World Series. Now if this was pre-1958 okay I am down, but I am not.

Hey Pete maybe you could sign some more baseballs and write, "I am sorry I a douche". You are a real class act Pete.

Hockey

NO this can't be happening. They do not make Finnish goons like they used to.

NHL Exhibition - you can catch the games at your local Sunglass Hut.

Soccer

Damn you Arsenal, damn you!

Alright enough of that lets get to the NFL

This week was not a grand as last week

Buffalo at Miami (-6.5) My pick Miami 23 - 16 Actual score 16 - 6 Bills - L (L) looks like the Bills are better and the Pins are not as great as many hoped.

Carolina at Minnesota (+1) My pick Carolina 20 - 14 Actual Score Minnesota 16 - 13 OT. L (L) Hi, Panthers Special Teams coach I just need to ask, WTF? Why try a trick play at that point?

Cleveland at Cincinnati (-10.5) Cincinnati 38 - 17 Actual Score 34 - 17. W (W) Sure the Browns got beat, but they did beat on the Bengals. Go check out the injury list.

Detroit at Chicago (-8.5) Bears 19 - 12 Actual Score Bears 34 - 7 W (L) Didn't the Bears score 41 points all season last year?

Tampa Bay at Atlanta (-5.5) Bucs 24 - 17 Actual Score Falcons 14 - 3 L (L) Since it be talk like a pirate day. Avast ye Jon Gruden you and ye team need to stop soiling the poop deck and be manning the pumps. For this vessel be sinking. Arrrrrrrrrrrrr!

Oakland at Baltimore (-12.5) Ravens 20 - 3 Actual Score Raven 28 - 6 W (W) I told you Mr. Brooks to be afraid. This was not a game but hobo beating.

New York Giants at Philadelphia (-3) Eagles 26 - 21 Actual Score Giants 30 - 24 OT L (L) For 3 quarters it looked like the Eagles were back, but sadly they forgot they had to play 4. That is a real tough loss and it got worse with losing Kearse for the year. Ouch!

New Orleans at Green Bay (+2) Saints 35 - 24 Actual Score Saints 34 - 27 W (W) Well I think the NFL could have not written a better script for next Monday nights game.

Houston at Indianapolis (-13.5) Colts 38 - 10 Actual Score Colts 43 - 23 W (W) Looks like the furniture is safe for another day

Arizona at Seattle (-7) Seahawks 37 - 26 Actual Score Seahawks 21 - 10 W (W) My fantasy hopes may be dashed since Porkchop is out for a few weeks. Now Hassleback and Alexander will disappoint me.

St. Louis at San Francisco (+3) 49ers 23 - 13 Actual Score 49ers 20 - 13 W (W) The Niners will win only 5 but they should be a pain in the ass all season for teams.

Kansas City at Denver (-11) Broncos 28 - 14 Actual Score Broncos 9 (gulp) 6 in OT W (L) Wow this was awful, but they got a win somehow. Jake you beginning to worry me.

New England at New York Jets (+6) Pats 30 - 10 Actual Score Pats 24 - 17 W (W) Hey I will hand it to the Jets for fighting.

Tennessee at San Diego (-11.5) Chargers 28 - 10 Actual Score Chargers 40 - 7 W (W) Oh sweet jebus what happened here. This game was almost as ugly as the Raider game. Titans good luck putting together the highlight slideshow this year.

Washington at Dallas (-7) Cowboys 20 - 9 Actual Score Cowboys 27 - 10 W (W) I can already hear the little man start to go ape shit. Note to Dan, you can spend money, but spend it on players who can play. Brunell has nothing left in that arm. Well you might have kept Ramsey a little longer now. Or maybe try to get Volek since Campbell is not ready. Hey just a thought.

Pittsburgh at Jacksonville (+2.5) Steelers 17 - 14 Actual Score 9 - 0 L (L) This one made the Broncos/Chief game seem like an old AFL shootout. Both D'd looked good, but Cowher if Ben has a 103 temp then sit him. Try to win with Batch. I think you ran a huge risk by play Ben.

So Week #2 Boski was:

11- 5 SU
8 -8 ATS

Which puts us so far at
24 - 8 SU (75%)
18 - 14 ATS (56%)

Talk like a Pirate.

We lost again.

We traded our best player away for a ham sandwich

We miss Andy Van Slyke.

Barry wasn't an asshole when he was here.

I miss the cake hats.

Where are you Mike Easler. . .

Oh wait wrong Pirates.

Let us see what my crystal ball has for you.

Well this weekend is being proclaimed as Separation Saturday for College, and Possible Positioning for Brad Quinn Sunday. Saturday is a great day for football with a ton of great intersectional matchups. So here are some of my quick and probably moronic thoughts on 5 of the big ones.

Oklahoma at Oregon (-4.5) Ducks hold off Peterson and then team hold Peterson from find Bohmer. Thanks to the ex-Sonner QB teams are stack 32 in the box. Ducks 30 Sooners 19

LSU at Auburn (-3) This one will be very close in fact I see OT. Also the safest betting tip I have for you on this game. Take the Tigers. But if you ask me I take Auburn 28 LSU 20

Michigan @ Notre Dame (-5.5) Winner become the leader in NCAA Football winning %. Throw that out to your friends, impress them. Speaking of impressing, the Irish looked good last week and I see them beating the Wolverines in a battle of two great fight songs. Irish 30 Wolverines 21

Florida at Tenn (+3.5) We will see if the Vols are back. I think this will be a breakout for leak and Meyer will keep the www.fireurbanmyer.com off his back for another week. Gators 27 Vols 23

Nebraska at University of Spreading Cash (-17.5) I am must be old, because seeing that the Huskers are that much of a dog is still a shock to me. Even though I dreamed of the day of seeing them get it rammed down their throats. I think SC will bury them. Man I hate SC. USC 49 Husked 20

Now to Sunday

Buffalo at Miami (-6.5) This one has had me going back and forth. But the Bills do not play well in Miami early. Miami 23 Buff 16

Carolina at Minnesota (+1) Short week, emotional win and an opponent that was shamed last week = Vikes lose. Carolina 20 Minnesota 14

Cleveland at Cincinnati (-10.5) With all the Orange, Brown, Black and White it will look like fall threw up on the field. Sadly when this is over the Browns will be the one wretcing. Cincinnati 38 - 17

Detroit at Chicago (-8.5) Bears put it to the Pack and the Lions frustrated Team Potted Meat almost all day. The Bears just smoother the Lions, but Lions cover Bears 19 - 12

Tampa Bay at Atlanta (-5.5) Until I see otherwise the Bucs have the speed to contain Vick. Also if Abraham is still hurting Simms may actually find one of his own receivers. Bucs 24 - 17

Oakland at Baltimore (-12.5) Aaron Brook, be afraid, be very afraid. Ravens 20 - 3

New York Giants at Philadelphia (-3) I think we will see the Eagles are for real and the grumbling begins for the G-Men. Eagles 26 - 21

New Orleans at Green Bay (+2) I think the Saints get revenge for the 52 they had put on them. The Saints could be 2-0 and on top of the division when Sunday ends. Saints 35 - 24

Houston at Indianapolis (-13.5) Another that could be very ugly. Colts 38 - 10

Arizona at Seattle (-7) Team Potted Meat comes out firing and tempers Cardinals fever that has been sweeping the nation. Seahawks 37 - 26

St. Louis at San Francisco (+3) I think the Niners shock the Sheep and that is not because I am still pissed about last week. 49ers 23 - 13

Kansas City at Denver (-11) Broncos have to play better, they may have a problem covering but they win and avoid going 0-2 before going to New England. Broncos 28 - 14

New England at New York Jets (+6) Pats 30 - 10. Next!

Tennessee at San Diego (-11.5) Another beat down Chargers 28 - 10. Next!

Washington at Dallas (-7) No Southside Jerome for the Skins means no chance. Cowboys 20 - 9

Pittsburgh at Jacksonville (+2.5)This will be the most physical matchup of the weekend. Even with Batch the Steelers win. Steelers 17 - 14

Catching up.

Sorry busy, busy, work keeps getting in the way of the important things.

So Week #1 is in the books and Boski had a good week.

If it wasn't for the Skins, you think with all the money thrown around maybe just maybe you get a kicker. I would have gone 13 - 3 SU. Did alright ATS 10 - 6.

Before I go into this weeks pick.

Beware of free falling Tigers. Didn't I see this last year. If the Tigers some how fall out of first and fall out of Wild Card, possible but improbable. They might as well just close up shop and fold the franchise. This collapse would be just below the Phillies of '64 and just above the Angels of '95. I will say the Twins have done all the right things, and god I hate saying that. But was it worth risking Liriano's arm. I know you play to win, but still with a player who has such a bright future you shelve him and not risk him doing even more damage.

What kind of nation have we become when you see Punter on Punter violence.

So another Bush doing something that is against the rules.(Yahoo Sports) If the NCAA would come down on USC then I would be able to scratch that off the Christmas wish list. At first, I almost felt bad for USC. I hate seeing programs pay for the actions of players or coaches no longer at the school, especially when they find things years later. I read the article and see what is being alleged. It makes me think. I pause and then I remembered how much I really hate the Trojans. So let them hang. Take away his Heisman, strip scholarships and make them give up their last title or two (which will please the Auburn fans) and turn over any O.J. evidence. But you know, as I reflect. Maybe I should not be too harsh on Reggie. After all he did take a pay cut to play in the NFL. So hasn't he paid enough.

Raider Football - Commitment to Excrement. Good job, good job. Joey Porter you are pure class. (S.F. Gate)

Could they at least get a free ottoman if they score against the Colts. (Deadspin)

Ewwwwwwwwwwwww. This marketing idea is almost disgusting as watching the Browns. (Deadspin)

Please enjoy this young Brazilian boys salute to the Florida elections of 2000. (Deadspin)

Alright I will be back later with my picks for this weekend.

So lets us take a look at the picks.

Let us see how we came out.

Saturday

I was right on 4 out of the 5 straight up, but sadly I missed and missed hard on the spread on a couple of them.

PSU at ND W (W) This one got ugly in a hurry.
Colorado at Colorado State L (L) I thought Checks Seized U was going to be down, wrong!
Rice at UCLA W (L) Rice is not as bad a I thought but still. UCLA plays like that against ND or USC and they put 60 on the Bruins.
OSU at Texas W (W) Colt Brennen looked more Gelding Brennen. So it's OSU vs. USC in the Fiesta Bowl. Oh joy.
Oregon at Fresno St. W (W) Ducks looked good I think they handle OU next week in Autzen Stadium.

So far
4-1 SU and 3-2 ATS

Now to the pros

Den at St.L W (W) Sadly I was right about this one. This could have been a blowout
NYJ at Tenn W (W) Ugly but entertaining to some extent.
Atl at Car L (L) Excuse me I can't talk right now, mouth full of crow.
Cinn at KC W (W) If Green is not alright, it could be a very long season. I am still trying to decide if that hit was clean, or cheap, since he was going into a hook slide.
Sea at Det W (L) Whoa, what is going on here? Sadly this game affected my roto team since I have Alexander and Hassleback. Fiddlesticks!
Phil at Hou W (W) Eagles looked good.
Balt at TB L (L) Way off on this one, and sadly my fears of the Ravens being decent have come back
N.O. at Clev W (W) Bush looked good but the Saints cut close. It must be real tough being a Browns fan.
Buff at N.E. W (L) That is a tough way to lose, a safety. The Bills showed a lot and the Pats may want to pony up to Deion Branch.
Chi at G.B. W (W) Farve wakes up this morning and realize his lunch money was taken, along with his dignity.
SF at Ari W (W) Who would have thought there were that many Cardinal fans.
Dall at Jax L (L) This picked looked good right up till Bledsoe started handing out gifts. Also how does Leftwitch complete anything with that delivery. Hey, as long as they win.
Indy at NYG W (W) Right now I am very thankful they did not breakout the Manning sonogram. My god, the Manning vs. Manning was way over played. It was an entertaining football game none the less.

So we have two more tonight and I stand by my original picks. So far week one I have 11 -3 SU and 9 - 5 ATS, including Thursday Night. Not a bad start.

Okay are you still there?

Good here are a couple picks for Saturday.

Penn State at Notre Dame (-7.5) ND wins 32 - 24
Colorado at Colorado State (+2) Colorado bounces CSU like a bad check 28 - 17
Rice at UCLA (-27) Rice, please find a comfortable spot behind the woodshed you will there all day Saturday UCLA 58-20
Oregon at Fresno State (+3.5) Team Rollerball shows that they will be in the upper half of the Pac 10 Oregon 26 - 20

The Game of the Night
Ohio State at Texas (-2.5) I like Ohio State since they will have enough D and get enough O to win a close one. OSU 23 - 20

The Pros

Denver at St. Louis (+3.5) Being the pessimist I am I see Miami all over again, but we will be in the game longer. St. L 27 - 19
NYJ at Tennessee (-2.5) This game looks like a mess, but the Jets will squeak out a win NYJ 16 - 10
Atlanta at Carolina (-5) Panther figure out Vick and Foster shows the Falcons they are still soft up the middle. Car 30 - 20
Cincinnati at Kansas City (-2) One of the most interesting match-ups of the weekend. So how will the Edwards Era begin. I say with a loss. Cinn 38 - 27
Seattle at Detroit (+6)- Rod Marinelli welcome to the NFL. Sea 28 - 13
Philadelphia at Houston (-5)- Texans will be better, but not today. Phil 24 - 16
Baltimore at Tampa Bay (-3) - Another game that has me going back and forth, but I like Tampa. TB 20 - 10
New Orleans at Cleveland (-3) New Orleans gets off to a good start. Clev still trying to fit Crennel's system. N.O. 31 - 25
Buffalo at New England (-10) Buffalo may be extinct by 3rd Quarter. N.E. 30 - 14
Chicago at Green Bay (+3) Farve came back for this. Chi 13 - 9
San Francisco at Arizona (-7.5) The Cards favored by a TD and playing at home. I feel whoozy. Ari 28 - 13
Dallas at Jacksonville (-2) Jacksonville when 9-1 against sub .500 teams 12-4 total. They need to show they can play with the big boy, but Dallas prevails. Dall 21 - 17
Indy at New York Giants (+3) - I can not wait . . . for this game to be over. Sure it may be a great game but I am sick of the Peyton/Eli hype. I cringe if they play against each other in a Super Bowl. Indy 30 - 24

Monday Night - Lets play two.

Minnesota at Washington (-3) I still do not like this team and their crash is coming sooner than later, but they beat the Vikes. Wash 26 - 17

San Diego at Oakland (-3) Hide the children this could get ugly. S.D. 31 - 10

I am out of here.

Welcome back football, lets us never fight again.

Last night was the start of NFL season and I was giddy like a school kid who had been taking huffs off freshly mimeographed copies.

Where to start where to start.

The game was a little sluggish, but that was to be expected for an opener. But there were very few penalties so a pretty clean game.

Not even before the first week even finished we already have people bitching at the zebras. I think they should go back to having the buzzer, but the review is all on Saban. He can't wait, he needs his people to give him an answer quicker.

For all those who say the refs love Pittsburgh, what about the PI call they did not get in the third quarter. Batch had the guy open for a big gain and the Dolphin DB came in early and interfered with Wilson trying to catch.

I think Fast Willie will do just fine

Joey, is something you are not telling us. Hey if there is, I am not going to say that there is anything wrong with that.

I think Heath Miller is still open. Come on in know he got some wheels, but when a TE goes more than 25 yards without getting touched, then you should have 11 players and a coordinator walking home.

I can hear Viking fans giggling. Dante will get better, but this is one of the things along with the secondary that make me take pause with the Dolphins. This team is a wild card team, unless New England falls hard. I am not saying this is a bad team. I am saying they are not as great as some advertise.

Back to Culpepper, he was not totally bad, he did make a nice throws. His throw to Welker on 2nd down on their drive before the half was a wonderful touch pass.

Speaking of Welker he did a fantastic job, his return and his first half catches put Miami in position to get their 10 points.

The O-Line may be a problem for Miami. Pittsburgh D is an elite unit and does a lot of things other team don't, but they were not sharp. Miami got protection early, but when Pittsburgh dialed up the pressure. Culpepper had people in his face all night.

Also 38 yards rushing on 18 attempts is not going to get it done. To me it will be interesting to see if Brown is up to taking the load. Or are they going to miss Puffy Puffy Herby Herb. He did show a nose for goalline, but in all fairness they need to get him more carries. If they are running less than 20 times a game they are screwed.

Charlie Batch 3 TD's. I only had one beer, so I was not drunk. Hmmm. He played very well. He did not force too many. This is big, because the Steelers could allow Big Ben more time to recoup.

28 - 17 not too far off from 20 - 17. But don't worry I am will quickly come back to earth with my other picks.

Other items before I finish.

Attention Nike, you may want to rethink your Briscoe High Ad's. Or at least making Mike Vick transfer. Briscoe has to come from behind to win. Also you have LT make the game winning pass. That say Vick was overthrowing everyone like it was the Powerade ad. You shmucks have LT, Vick, Urlacher and Palamalu and you almost lose to that team. Thanks, since you could not cover the 35 1/2, I lost money. You rat bastards. I say fire Shula. Also one last thing, if Jillian Barbarie is attending your high school then the mascot needs to be changed to the Skanks. Yes, I did go there. What of it?

Before I get to the football, I need to talk about the football.

Yes before I try to give you my thoughts on last nights game and maybe just maybe I will give you Boski's Craptastic Pro Football Bonanza I ran across this.

Qualifying for Euro 2008 began and since Northern Ireland is still in Europe they are still allowed to try to qualify. So how have things gone? Well they lost to Iceland. Yes that football powerhouse Iceland. Iceland is just a step above the Ferroe Islands and Leitchenstein in Euro football. I thought this team could mark Bjork, looks like I was wrong.

So just when it seemed the Northern Irish would just be killing time till they get pounded in World Cup qualify this happens. Got you again Spain! This almost as good as the win they had over England last summer. To come back twice and beat a squad like a quality side like that is fantastic. Now if your brethren from the south can start doing that.

This would really suck if he split Biggie chili on his lap.

Matt Millen what kind of team are you running. (Thanks to Jalopnik, I love the title of the article)

Matt, I think you should just give your two weeks and go back to the booth. Or go be ref, you had fun with that and you would be good at it. Hey I am just trying to look out for you and the people of Detroit have suffered enough. It is getting so bad the fan miss Wayne Fontes. And I have heard reports they want to dig up Bobby Layne.

It starts tonight.

Football, glorious football.

I am ready for it. Last night drafted my team so I have now 3 teams to monitor. How am I going to get work done?

Tonight it is Fish at Steelers. The line is Pitt - 1.5

As much as I keep hearing about the Fins. I am still not sold on them yet. Tonight I see the Steelers doing enough to get a win. The emotion of opening night and seeing the banner will carry them.

Boski Bits of Info:

I think the Steelers need to get pressure on Culpepper early and rattle his cage. This is an O-Line that still has questions.

Keep Mc Michael in check, he is the one who I think will get the most out of having Dante throwing.

But the Steelers will be in trouble if they can give Culpepper time. The Pins want a shootout since the Steelers might not have enough O, without Big Ben and maybe Ward. So I see the Pins airing it out early, maybe throw some no-huddle in to minimize the blitz looks. Make the Steelers chase them and then pound them with Ronnie Brown late.

The Steelers will lean on Parker heavily tonight. Which is why it is so important that Batch make some plays early in the passing game, to get that running game room. The secondary is the area that the Dolphins still have a lot to prove. So if they can keep 8 out of the box, advantage slides to the Steelers.

But then every sports talking head says the same thing.

So the score will be

Pittsburgh 20
Miami 17

Alright, I am out of here.

New blog!

But with same old author.

Ladies and Gentlemen of planet Earth and Milky Way Galaxy. My name is Boski and I am here to underwhelming you with a blog just about sports. Which is not much different than the old Blog Muffin, other than the constant cameo appearances of Bubba Smith and Dick Butkus. So it is like a mentally challenged version of the failed ABC version of Blue Thunder.

I plan to use this as a vehicle to show I no insights about sports, even though I have spent my life consumed with it. I will be a poor man Jimmy the Greek. All of that and I will do it without the racial insensitivity. I know that is a low blow.

So sit back and enjoy the shame. Please warm up before throwing debris at the stage.
