Boski's Week #5 Picks

So we now are at the start of the 2nd Quarter of the Football Season. Some really big games this week.

So let us skip all the formality and get to it. The quicker I do the more time I have to think of witty ways to backtrack from these pick on Monday.

Chicago at Buffalo (+10) The Bears fresh from their mauling of the Seahawks roll into Buffalo. Ten points that is a lot to give. This is a decent Bills team, who can win this game. Do so would keep themselves with in distance of the Pats. But the Bills had a tough time with Vikes D and the Bears are better than that, but not 10 points better. Bears 18 - 14

Cleveland at Carolina (-8) This should be a cakewalk, but the Panthers have been awful vs. the number as a favorite. So I think the Browns will hang in tough. But the Panthers will get the win. Panthers 21 - 14

Miami at New England (-10) Right now the status of Culpepper is in the air. I think they may need to turn it over to Joey, if for anything to create a spark. Speaking of turning it over, no matter who is at the QB spot the Dolphins are in for a long, long day. Pats 31 - 17

Detriot at Minnesota (-6.5) The season most seem longer than 16 games for Lion fans. The Vikes will grind out a win to keep them within sight of the Bears. Vikes 23 - 16

St. Louis at Green Bay (+3) Brett Farve endangers himself once again. It is going to be another long Sunday for Farve and the Pack. The Rams come in looking better than many had expected, but they need to focus this week and not be thinking of the Seahawks at home next week. Rams 28 - 14

Tampa Bay at New Orleans (-6.5) Sending rookie QB's to play their first games in a dome is just an accident waiting to happen. The Saints will put the Bucs playoff hopes to rest this weekend. Saints 31 - 20

Tennessee at Indianapolis (-18.5) You do not see lines like this. I usually stay away from these, because too many times the favs will sleep walk through and to win and not cover. Even as bad as teams seem, they are still in the NFL. But I think this one is on the money. Colts stomp Titans, oh was that too soon? Colts 41 - 20

Washington at New York Giants (-5) The Skins have picked it up and the Giants are coming off the bye, which they spent licking their wounds from the beat down they took in Seattle. Both teams could end this season in turmoil, but I think the Giants get their first and it starts with this week. Redskins 23 - 20

Kansas City at Arizona (+3.5) I think the Cardinals will need to put their play on the ceiling, since Leinart will be spending a lot of time look up. The Cards are still the Cards. The Chiefs will run LJ down their throats and pressure the rookie into a ton of mistakes. You may think that this is one of Marty's old Chief teams. Chiefs 30 - 22

New York Jets at Jacksonville (-7) The Jags return home after a tough pair of road games that could and should have won. The Jets come off a heart breaker where they fought the Colts till the end. The Jags will get the win, but they are going to struggle. This team just has something missing. They have most of the parts, but they are missing a few and some just don't fit right. The Jets will give them 59 minutes and 45 seconds of aggravation. Jags 27 - 24

Oakland at San Francisco (-3) I know, I know. They still have to play the games no matter how bad it may be. The loser goes to L.A. I kid, I kid. We don't want either of them. So far people are worried that Art Shell may have let the game get by him. Well that won't happen. He never got ahead of it to start with. It is like the 90's all over again. The man still does not know how to make half time adjustments. Hey Brady Quinn, you wish you had another year left of eligibility don't you. The Niners are not good, but they are young and getting better. The get the taste of last week out of their mouths with a win. 49ers 28 - 17

Dallas at Philadelphia (-1.5) I think it would be safe if Fox does not use the parabolic mic at this game. I can only imagine the FCC fine from the profanity that is going to picked up on those. And that is just from the Eagles Cheerleaders. My god I can only think of the drunk depravity that the fans have in store. Fox may also rethink it's pregame show at the stadium, like ESPN's College game day.If the Eagle's have the same set up as the old Vet the court house will be full be kickoff. This week could make the flare incident back in the 90's look tame. As for the game, I think the Eagles will be ready, I think they slept walked through Monday's game because they have been waiting for this one. The Cowboys looked good against a bad Titan team. If they hope to win they need to keep Beldsoe upright and get some short fields on the Eagles. But I think the Eagles will match the intensity of the fans, since if they lose they can't leave like the Cowboys. The Eagles will make enough plays in the passing game and they will blitz Beldsoe silly. Eagles 26 - 21

Sunday Night Football

Pittsburgh at San Deigo (-3) The Steelers have to win this one. To be 1 - 3 is not the best way to go back to the Super Bowl. But their task is made difficult by going to San Diego. Who let one get away. The Steelers need this game and they have had success playing at the Murph. The bye week helps them in that they have been nicked up. They will claw their way back into the hunt, only if Marty stays for the whole game. If he leaves after the 3rd the Bolts win going away. Steelers 24 - 20

Monday Night

Baltimore at Denver (-4) The Broncos come off the bye with a huge game, against a team that many now are thinking will be playing deep in the playoffs. Yes, it is my worst nightmare. The Ravens are back and they are winning in their ugly and brutal ways. This is a team that just give the Broncos fits, even last year. But this week we see what kind of team Denver is. Are they the team that lost to St. Louis and only scored 9 at home to the Chiefs, or is this the team that beat the Pats. Denver has always played well coming off the bye, so I will jinks them and take them to win, but they don't cover. Broncos 17 - 15
